In 2020, Guan Heng embarked on a risky mission to prove the existence of concentration camp facilities used to imprison Uyghurs. Now, he faces the threat of deportation back to China, where he would face drastic consequences.
I hope this gains the attention of the right people. Trump's directive is clear, but America loves stories of bravery and righteous intent. I'll pray for you, Guan.
You’re acting like it’s some kind of insane Brazil-style farce to expect someone to enter the country with paperwork but that’s literally how it works in every single country and they all deport you if you don’t follow their entry procedures too
Even people arriving by ship have to fill out an entry card - why would anyone think the United States is the one country on Earth that doesn’t exercise control of its borders?
You're acting like asylum was not specifically created to deal with the problem of people who are oppressed specifically by their government, and that it was deliberately designed so you could invoke it from inside a country no matter how you got there. This man is a textbook asylum case, and there's not shred of abuse of the asylum system in sight. Deporting entirely legitimate asylum claimants is exactly the opposite of how it works—no decent country deport asylum claimants that are as deserving as this one is.
He did file for asylum, it's in the story you're commenting on. He presented his asylum paperwork to ICE. They detained him anyway. Yesterday the DHS essentially said they were closing his (still open) asylum case to send him to Uganda, of all places. Where he'll be immediately sent to China and killed.
This is an extraordinary article about an extraordinary man. I first came across Guan Heng's videos a few years ago online. At the time, I was awed by his courage, but feared the Chinese authorities had gotten him when I couldn't find anything more recent about him online. How ironic that he made it to the U.S. only to be imprisoned by our own misguided thugs. He is the very reason asylum was created and needs to be freed and granted asylum now.
The account of Guan Heng’s terrifying trip across the open sea is especially moving and distressing. For him and many other defenders of human rights, the USA has been a shining beacon of hope. Today it is much dimmer.
This guy had the brilliant idea to use the Uyghur video slop he took as a free US citizenship card. Why did Mr. Guan choose to go to the US and not Taiwan if he was so concerned with facing retribution from publishing his video? Why is "illegal immigrant" in quotes when he literally entered the US on a boat? Why is HE the one claiming asylum when the Uyghurs are the ones in camps? This man's asylum claim is a joke and should be rejected on grounds of frivolity. If any person in China can go to Xinjiang and take shaky footage of buildings with barbed wire to trade for an asylum claim in the US, we might as well be open borders.
Also what? If my real name was Huan Geng, would I automatically be assumed to be "an agent of Communist China"? Mask off moment for all the fake liberals that profess to care about racism. This is who you really are. No different than the racists on the far right you claim to decry.
Ah yes you caught me! Everyone that disagrees with you is secretly a CCP agent! If I was a CCP agent why would I suggest he go to Taiwan instead of the US, which he def has a valid citizenship claim through his mom? It's because he's a migrant of opportunity, there is high youth unemployment in China right now and I'm sure he thought by coming to the US he could find a job and make more money. Too bad for him he's on a one way ticket to Uganda-be-kidding-me 😂
I sleep fine. I want you to re-read my comment and tell me which part was a lie? He entered the US illegally, that is a fact. He is not one of the Uyghurs who was put in a camp, that is a fact. Nowhere in my comment did I deny what's happening to Uyghurs in China, in fact I literally said "when the Uyghurs are the ones in camps". When you have fully recovered from Trump Derangement Syndrome maybe you can see things more clearly. 🙏
"This man's asylum claim is a joke" is an extremely blatant lie. And it is 100% legal to claim asylum from inside the US no matter how you initially entered. His claim absolutely should succeed, and while his legitimate claim is pending he is in fact here entirely legally. And nowhere did I mention Donald Trump at all, so your disingenuous attempt to invoke TDS fails.
It's obvious to anyone with any discernment what you're doing.
I hope this gains the attention of the right people. Trump's directive is clear, but America loves stories of bravery and righteous intent. I'll pray for you, Guan.
People would be happy to donate to a legal defense fund.
If there is one, please let us know.

He had four years to file an asylum claim under Biden; why did he drag his feet?
Did he think this was the one country on Earth with no paperwork?

Why was his claim still open?
Because claims regularly stretch on for years? He filed in 2021 and still had interviews pending.
Are you going to pretend that you think that our country usually handles these things in really expedient, efficient ways?
The Biden admin was fast-tracking asylum applications; they did almost a million under his term
The article gives no explanation why this guy’s dragged on, but, like, there was an election about asylum claims and the American people spoke
Jesus you’re a tedious fucking faggot

Free him!!!

Bob thinks by using a name like Bob he can hide the fact that he’s an agent of Communist China. GFY “Bob”

Maybe that made more sense in your head. Your English is pretty good though.

Do you feel morally fulfilled lying and shilling for a murderous, genocidal regime? Go tell Winnie the Pooh he's a thuggish, evil man.

I saw he got asylum last week
